Holloway served on head coach Kevin Willard's staff as associate head coach for eight seasons
South Orange, N.J. - A 2012 Seton Hall Athletics Hall of Famer and former associate head coach under head coach Kevin Willard at Seton Hall, Shaheen Holloway led Saint Peter's to the 2022 MAAC Championship on Saturday with a 60-54 win over Monmouth at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. The Peacocks earned the MAAC's automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA Tournament with the victory.
"Congratulations to Shaheen and his staff on winning the MAAC Championship," said Willard. "Shaheen was by my side for 11 years, including eight at Seton Hall, and he played a critical role in building the foundation of the program we have today. The success that he's having in the early stages of his head coaching career is no surprise to me or anyone else that has worked with him. I couldn't be prouder of him."
Holloway helped restore the winning tradition he contributed to as a player at The Hall. The Pirates had three Associated Press All-America honorable mention selections, 12Â All-BIG EAST selections, three BIG EAST All-Rookies and 36 BIG EAST All-Academic team selections in his eight seasons with Willard on the bench. Holloway's ability to recruit helped land Seton Hall recruits who blossomed under Willard and his staff's tutelage. With Holloway serving as a lead recruiter, Seton Hall boasted a top-15 national recruiting class in 2014, led by Isaiah Whitehead, the program's first McDonald's All-American since 2001 who went on to become a 2016 NBA Draft pick;Â Angel Delgado, the 2018 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award National Center of the Year and BIG EAST all-time rebounds leader;Â and Khadeen Carrington, who finished his Seton Hall career as the ninth all-time leading scorer in program history.
Holloway, the Pirates' all-time assist leader with 681, scored 1,588 points during his career, the 17th highest total in school history. He also recorded 231 steals (fourth all-time) and hit 185 three-pointers (eighth all-time) in 116 games. In 2000, he was named the BIG EAST's Most Improved Player, while earning All-BIG EAST status three times and All-Metropolitan accolades in each of his four seasons at Seton Hall. He was a four-year standout at Seton Hall from 1996-00 and helped lead his team to the 2000 NCAA Sweet Sixteen, which included hitting the game-winning layup in overtime to defeat Oregon in the NCAA first round.
