San Diego, Calif. — Graduate student Myles Cale (Middletown, Del.) had 11 points on 3-of-6 shooting from three-point range in his final collegiate game as eighth-seeded Seton Hall fell to ninth-seeded TCU, 69-42, in the NCAA Tournament at Viejas Arena on Saturday evening.
Graduate student Jamir Harris (North Brunswick, N.J.) also dropped 11 for the Pirates (21-11, 11-8 BIG EAST). The Hall was making its fifth appearance in the last six NCAA Tournaments.
How It Happened
It was a defensive slugfest in the early going with only 23 combined points through the first 10-plus minutes of the game.
After made baskets by sophomore Kadary Richmond (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and senior Jared Rhoden (Baldwin, N.Y.) at the beginning of the game that made it 4-2 Seton Hall, TCU went on a 7-0 run that gave them a 9-4 lead with 11:54 to play in the first half.
A made three-pointer by Harris with 9:29 to go before halftime made it a one-point game, 12-11, and it would be as close as the Pirates would get in the first half. Later, back-to-back three-pointers by Harris and Cale got the deficit to within seven, 28-21, but a put back dunk gave the Horned Frogs a 30-21 lead at half.
TCU's Damion Baugh hit a three to open the second-half scoring that made it 33-21 and TCU never looked back, obtaining its largest lead of the game with just over a minute to play.
