Baines brings a ton of ACC experience from stops with the Hokies and Duke.
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Seton Hall women's basketball head coach Anthony Bozzella announced today the addition of Virginia Tech transfer Azana Baines (Blackwood, N.J.) to the program.Â
Â
"I think Azana has a wonderful opportunity to blossom for us," Bozzella said. "She's a really talented player with great length that can play both on the wing and inside. She was very well coached at Virginia Tech, but wanted a chance at being more of a featured player. Azana is a great student, a great kid and she's a New Jersey girl, so we're happy to be able to bring her home."
Â
Baines has been a major contributor at both of her prior collegiate stops, averaging over 22 minutes per game in two seasons at Virginia Tech and nearly 15 minutes per game as a freshman at Duke. She averaged 5.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per game while making 20 starts for the Hokies last season and helping them to 23 victories and an NCAA Tournament berth. On Feb. 8 against Clemson, Baines scored a career-high 20 points on 10-for-11 shooting from the floor and pulled down seven rebounds.
Â
The New Jersey native's teams have averaged 18.6 wins per season in three years of collegiate basketball.
Â
A highly-regarded recruit out of high school, Baines was ranked No. 61 overall by ESPN and closed her career with over 1,700 career points at Gloucester. Baines was the 2019 Courier Post, Gloucester County Times and Al Carino Basketball Club Player of the Year and one of five finalists for the New Jersey State Player of the Year.
