Thompson Inducted into UMass Boston Hall of Fame

Seton Hall's new head volleyball coach was honored by her alma mater in a ceremony on Thursday.
BOSTON – New Seton Hall women's volleyball head coach Shannon Thompson was inducted into the University of Massachusetts – Boston Athletics Hall of Fame on Thursday.
Thompson was a four-year letterwinner and a four-time first-team All-Little East Conference selection during her collegiate playing days at UMass Boston from 2009-12, helping the Beacons to four consecutive conference tournament championships and NCAA appearances. The Beacons' career leader in kills (1,803), digs (1,202) and solo blocks (120), she was the first player in conference history to be named Offensive Player of the Year three times in addition to being tabbed as the conference's Rookie of the Year. She closed out her college career by earning her third Little East Conference Tournament Most Outstanding Player award and leading the Beacons to the 2012 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball National Championship Tournament quarterfinals.
Thompson earned her undergraduate degree in exercise and health science in 2013 at UMass Boston and then completed her MBA work, with a specialization in marketing, at UMass Boston in 2017.
The rest of Thompson's class includes: Mac Singleton (coach), Myles Berry (coach & contributor), Martin Doto '77 (football & lacrosse), Dennis Doherty '82 (ice hockey), Ryan Walsh '11 (baseball), Krista Ledin-Gambill '15 (women's soccer) and the 1987 UMass Boston Women's Track and Field Team.
Thompson will make her coaching debut with the Pirates this fall after spending the last two years at the helm of Canisius' program.
