
Pirates Can't Top St. John's On The Road, 1-0

Queens, N.Y. - The Seton Hall women's soccer team couldn't collect its first BIG EAST win on Thursday evening as the Pirates fell to St. John's, 1-0.
Junior Maille McDermott (Nashua, N.H.) had a shot on goal for The Hall. Senior goalkeeper Grace Gordon (Chester Springs, Pa.) made six saves in goal.
How It Happened
Five minutes into the contest, sophomore Chiara Pucci (Munich, Germany) took a free kick and sent it down the far sideline to sophomore Natalie Tavana (Middletown, Conn.). Tavana possessed, turned and sent the ball into the area where it found the head of McDermott who flicked the ball toward goal but it was saved.
The Red Storm scored in the 26th minute and controlled play for most of the half. After halftime, Seton Hall picked up the pace as Pucci put up a shot in the 56th minute and Tavana and sophomore Phoebe Hampson (Cheshire, England) found themselves in the six-yard box battling for possession of the ball before it was cleared in the 67th minute. However, the Pirates couldn't equalize and the early first half goal stood as the game-winner.

Seton Hall will continue its road swing as the Pirates travel to Xavier for a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday. The game will be streamed on the BIG EAST Digital Network via FloSports.
