Newark, N.J. - Isaiah Coleman (Fredericksburg, Va.) scored a team-best and season-high 17 points on an efficient 7-for-12 clip from the field as the Seton Hall men's basketball team notched a 70-61 victory over Monmouth on Tuesday night at Prudential Center.
Coleman was one of three Pirates to surpass double figures in the victory, as Al-Amir Dawes (Newark, N.J.) poured in 12 points and Jaden Bediako (Brampton, Ontario) put in an 11-point effort. Bediako also added 10 rebounds to pick up his third double-double of the season.
How It Happened
After a back-and-forth first seven minutes, the Hawks went ahead on a layup that made it 12-10 with 13:02 left in the first half. The Pirates would then go on a torrid run sparked by its bench, which scored 13 points in a season-best 17-0 run that ballooned the Seton Hall lead to 15, 27-12.
Monmouth later cut its deficit to 12 but back-to-back treys by Jaquan Sanders (Queens, N.Y.) gave the Pirates a 16-point lead at 35-19, its largest of the game, with 3:04 left before halftime.
In the second half, a 9-1 run for the Hawks trimmed the Seton Hall lead to six with 14:01 left before a corner three by Al-Amir Dawes (Newark, N.J.) extended the Pirates' advantage to nine, 47-38.
The Hawks refused to go away as they got within two points with just over 11 minutes to go and three points at the 5:20 mark. However, the Pirates were able to keep them at a distance on both occasions. Dawes helped ice the game for The Hall as he scored four of its final six points.
