NEW YORK – Seton Hall's Thomas Minar (Oxford, Conn.) has been named BIG EAST Swimming & Diving Men's Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday. It is the third consecutive week in which a Pirate has won the recognition.
Minar picked up four overall victories in Saturday's victory over defending-BIG EAST Champion Georgetown, 189.5-110.5. His day began in the 200 Medley Relay of which he swam the anchor leg, clocking his 50 at 20.17 to help his team finish with a winning time of 1:30.87. Minar would pick up individual victories in both the 50 Free and 100 Free on the afternoon. The senior won the former in a time of 21.21, while his win in the 100 Free came in 46.58. Minar's day concluded with another relay triumph, this time in the 400 Medley Relay as his team combined for a time of 3:05.81.
The Pirates have the coming weeks to train and prepare for the BIG EAST Championships, which take place at Nassau Aquatic Center in East Meadow, N.Y. from Feb. 22-25.
