Park-Lane Breaks Record as Pirates Down DePaul, 89-82

Lauren Park-Lane breaks Seton Hall's single-game scoring record with 39 points on Monday.
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Senior Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) broke Seton Hall's single-game scoring record with 39 points, and Sidney Cooks (Kenosha, Wis.) added 29 more as the Pirates defeated DePaul, 89-82, on Monday.
Park-Lane scored her 39 points on 11-for-19 shooting from the floor, including 2-for-4 from three-point, range and 15-for-19 from the free-throw line. She also had nine assists and four rebounds. Park-Lane's performance breaks the former record of 38 points scored twice by former Pirates star Tabatha Richardson-Smith, most recently against Illinois on Dec. 9, 2014.
Trailing after the first quarter, the Pirates opened the second with a 15-0 run and never trailed again.
Cooks also had a tremendous night, scoring 29 points on 12-for-19 shooting, including 4-for-6 from three-point range. She also pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.
THE STORY:
After a quick-paced and evenly-played first quarter, the Pirates opened the second with a 15-0 run fueled by a trio of made three-pointers by Cooks. The Hall held the Blue Demons scoreless for the first 3:31 of the quarter and built a 33-22 lead. DePaul cut into the Pirates' lead, but Seton Hall was able to take a 51-42 lead into halftime.
The Pirates shot 64.5% from the floor in the first 20 minutes with both Park-Lane and Cooks reaching 20 points. Moreover, the dynamic duo were a combined 16-for-20 from the field in the first half.
A three-point play by Azana Baines (Blackwood, N.J.) gave The Hall a 60-48 lead, but DePaul answered with an 8-0 run to cut their deficit to just four points, 60-56, with 5:12 left in the third quarter. Out of a timeout, the Pirates put up an 8-0 burst of their own to go back up 12 with 2:14 left in the third.
Seton Hall opened the fourth with a 12-3 run, and a put back by Cooks gave it its largest lead of the night, 80-64 with 5:24 left in the game. DePaul rallied again and cut the Pirates lead to just five, 85-80, with 1:02 left to play, but The Hall was able to ice the game on the free-throw line.

Seton Hall will return to action on Wednesday, February 15 when it faces DePaul again, but this time in Chicago. Tip is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET. THE NUMBERS:
- Seton Hall was 32-for-60 (53.3%) from the floor for the game, while DePaul was 27-for-68 (39.7%). The Hall was 7-for-18 (38.9%) from three-point range, while the Blue Demons were just 4-for-23 (17.4%).
- Park-Lane erupted for a Seton Hall record 39 points on 11-for-19 shooting, including 2-for-4 from three-point range, and 15-for-19 from the free-throw line. She also had nine assists and four rebounds.
- Seton Hall out-rebounded DePaul, 40-to-35, but the Blue Demons had 13-to-11 edge on the offensive glass. Second-chance points were even at 14 apiece.
- Cooks tallied 29 points on 12-for-19 shooting, including 4-for-6 from three-point range. She also had a team-high nine rebounds.
- Seton Hall was 18-for-25 (72.0%) from the free-throw line, while DePaul was 24-for-28 (85.7%).
- Junior Amari Wright (Jacksonville, Fla.) had five rebounds, three assists, two steals and was a team-best +25 on the night.
- Seton Hall forced 10 turnovers, while DePaul forced 18. The Blue Demons had a 20-to-14 advantage in points-off-turnovers.
- Graduate student Alexia Allesch (Basking Ridge, N.J.) had a strong defensive night, often charged with guarding Aneesah Morrow, one of the top forwards in the nation. Allesch had a season-high seven rebounds and blocked three shots, two of which were shot by Morrow.
- Seton Hall improves to 16-10 overall and 9-7 in the BIG EAST, while DePaul drops to 13-13 overall and 6-9 in conference play.
- The Hall is now 7-23 all-time against the Blue Demons. It's only the second time in the series that the Pirates have won back-to-back games against DePaul.
- With 39 points tonight, Park-Lane moved Pirates Hall of Famer Ka-Deidre Simmons into third place on Seton Hall's all-time scoring list. She now has 1,749 career points.
- Tonight's effort was Park-Lane's fifth 30-point game of the season and the 10th of her career. Furthermore, it's her 12th 20-point game of the season and the 36th of her career.
- With 29 points tonight, Cooks surpassed the 1,700-points milestone for her career.
- Tonight's performance was Cook's fourth straight 20-point game, her sixth of the season and the 14th of her career.
- The Hall improves to 115-44 in Walsh Gym during the Bozzella era. Furthermore, the Pirates are now 57-33 against BIG EAST opponents at home.
- Cooks' 16 points in the second quarter is tied for the second-most in a single-quarter in Seton Hall history.
- Park-Lane's 14 points in the first quarter is tied for ninth-most in a single-quarter in Seton Hall history.
- With three assists tonight, Wright reached the 100-assists mark for her career.
- Seton Hall improves to 16-0 this season when leading at the half.
- The Pirates improve to 16-2 this year when out-shooting their opponent and 15-3 when shooting better than 40.0% from the field.
- The 33 points that Seton Hall scored in the second quarter is tied for the seventh-most in a single-quarter in program history.
