The Hall falls to Syracuse, 72-54, in the second round of the WNIT.

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Senior Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) collected a team-high 23 points, but the Seton Hall women's basketball team fell to Syracuse, 72-54, in the second round of the 2023 WNIT on Monday in Walsh Gym.

Syracuse went on an 18-2 run in the second quarter and the Pirates played from behind for the remainder of the game. The Hall's season comes to an end with a 19-15 final record.

Park-Lane had 23 points on 11-for-22 shooting from the floor and six assists. She finishes the season only 20 points shy of Seton Hall's career scoring record.

Azana Baines (Blackwood, N.J.) finished with eight points and eight rebounds, while Jala Jordan (Philadelphia, Pa.) had eight rebounds off the bench in only 14 minutes.

THE STORY:
It was a slow start for both teams as they combined to make just four of their first 20 shots. It didn't get better for the Pirates as the quarter progressed as they shot just 3-for-17 from the field in the first 10 minutes. Their defense kept it a two-point game, 9-7, heading into the second thanks to seven Syracuse turnovers.

While Syracuse came alive to start the second, the Pirates' offense remained stymied. The Orange opened the second quarter with an 18-2 run, holding the Pirates to just 1-for-13 shooting during the burst, to grab a commanding 27-9 lead with 2:20 left before halftime. Collectively, the Pirates made just four of their first 30 shots for the game and were out-scored 26-8 in the second stanza. Syracuse took a 35-15 lead into the break.

Down by 22, The Hall went on a 14-3 run, and an acrobatic three-point play by Park-Lane cut its deficit to 40-29 with 5:50 left in the third quarter. A minute later, Park-Lane scored again on a runner to cut Syracuse's lead to single-digits, but the Orange responded with a 7-0 spurt to quash The Hall's rally.

Syracuse scored the first nine points of the fourth quarter to boost their advantage back to 20 points, 60-40, with 7:58 left to play.

THE NUMBERS:

Seton Hall was 25-for-65 (38.5%) from the floor for the game, while Syracuse was 29-for-67 (43.3%). The Hall was 2-for-19 (10.5%) from three-point range, while the Orange were 5-for-23 (21.7%).
Park-Lane finished with a team-high 23 points on 11-for-22 shooting to go with six assists.
Syracuse out-rebounded The Hall, 46-to-39, including a 19-to-14 edge on the offensive glass and an 15-to-8 advantage in second-chance points.
Baines had eight points and eight rebounds.
Seton Hall was 2-for-4 (50.0%) from the free-throw line, while Syracuse was 9-for-19 (47.4%).
Jordan had eight rebounds in 14 minutes.
Seton Hall forced 16 turnovers, while Syracuse forced 19. The Orange had a 26-to-17 advantage in points-off-turnovers.

THE NOTES:

Seton Hall completes the season with a final record of 19-15, while Syracuse improves to 20-12 and advances to the WNIT Super 16.
The Hall is now 28-26 all-time against the Orange and has dropped the last seven games in the series.
With 23 points tonight, Park-Lane closes the season just 20 points shy of tying Seton Hall's all-time scoring record. Tonight's performance gives her 1,905 for her career.
Sidney Cooks (Kenosha, Wis.) collected six points tonight, finishing her career with 1,801 career points and 1,096 in a Seton Hall uniform, which ranks 22^nd in program history.
Park-Lane's 686 points this season breaks the single-season Seton Hall record that she set last year with 678. She now ranks No. 1 and No. 2 on the list.
Park-Lane's 207 assists this year rank second-most in a single-season in Seton Hall history, trailing only the 260 she dished out last season.
Park-Lane averaged 6.3 assists per game this year, which is the second-highest assists per game average in Seton Hall history. Her 7.0 last year is the top mark, and her 5.4 during the 2020-21 season ranks third.
Park-Lane finished the season with a scoring average of 20.8 points per game. She's only the second player in Pirates' history to average at least 20 points per game for a season. Only Geraldine Saintilus with 21.8 ppg in 1988-89 averaged more.
