The Hall falls on a Creighton putback at the buzzer in overtime despite 36 points from Lauren Park-Lane.
Â
With Azana Baines (Blackwood, N.J.) mired in foul trouble and Sidney Cooks (Kenosha, Wis.) slowed by an ankle injury, Park-Lane nearly willed the Pirates to victory with 36 points, a career-high eight rebounds, six assists and two steals.
Â
The Hall led by five points with 16 seconds left in regulation, but Creighton's Morgan Maly and Emma Ronsiek hit three-pointers in the final seconds to force overtime. In the extra session, Mya Bembry (West Orange, N.J.) scored to give The Hall a 74-73 lead with 11 seconds left, but Maly's offensive rebound and putback at the buzzer was the game-winner for Creighton.
Â
Baines had a double-double with 11 points and a season-high 11 rebounds. Bembry was a third Pirate to reach double-figures in scoring. She had 10 points and six rebounds.
Â
THE STORY:
Creighton, the BIG EAST's leader in three-pointers made per game by a wide margin, stayed true to its reputation, connecting on eight of 23 attempts in the first half alone. With the score tied at 21, Creighton went on a 9-1 run on three made three-pointers to take a 30-22 lead with 4:34 to play until halftime.  Undeterred, the Pirates chipped away at the Bluejays lead and a steal and buzzer-beating layup by Park-Lane shaved their deficit to 33-31 at the break.Â
Â
Baines picked up her fourth foul with 6:19 left in the third, but the Pirates' bench picked up the slack. The Hall outscored Creighton, 18-to-9 in the third quarter to take a 49-42 lead into the fourth. The Bluejays were 0-for-5 from downtown in the third.
Â
Jala Jordan (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored in the post with 5:54 remaining to give The Hall a 57-49 lead, but Creighton rallied with an 8-0 run to tie the game at 57 with 4:13 left. A Victoria Keenan (Bethlehem, Pa.) free-throw gave The Hall a 62-57 lead with only 16 seconds left, but Maly hit a three-pointer to shave The Hall's lead to 62-60 with 14 seconds left. After a Park-Lane free-throw, Ronsiek hit the game-tying three-pointer with just nine seconds remaining. Park-Lane's floater with one second left missed the mark.
Â
In overtime, neither team had a lead greater than three points. A pair of made free-throws with 32 seconds left gave The Hall a 72-71 lead with 32 seconds left, but Creighton's Lauren Jensen hit a jumper with 17 seconds left to hand the lead back to the Bluejays. Baines found Bembry wide open under the basket for the go-ahead score with only 11 seconds left. On Creighton's final possession, the Pirates' defense was strong forcing a missed shot by Ronsiek, but Maly grabbed the offensive rebound and scored as time expired.
THE NUMBERS:Lauren Park-Lane erupted for a new BIG EAST Tournament record for a Seton Hall player with 36 points to go with a career-high eight rebounds and six assists.
