The Pirates shortstop hit .565 last week with two home runs and eight stolen bases.
NEW YORK – Seton Hall junior Max Viera (Greenwood Lake, N.Y.) was named BIG EAST Baseball Player of the Week on Monday.
Â
Viera was the catalyst for the Pirates' high-powered offense last week, leading the team with a .565 batting average and was a perfect 8-for-8 in stolen base attempts. He also belted two home runs showing both his power and speed.
Â
Viera opened the week by going 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and two stolen bases against Saint Peter's on Tuesday. On Friday at ETSU, he was 3-for-4 with a triple and two stolen bases.  Viera collected two more hits on Saturday at ETSU and closed his week with a 4-for-6 performance with two steals and four runs scored in the rubber game of the series.
Â
Thanks to Viera's efforts, the Pirates went 4-1 last week and won the East Tennessee State series on the road. The junior currently leads the Pirates with a .340 batting average and is 16-for-17 in stolen base attempts this season.
Â
Xavier's Justin Loer earned Pitcher of the Week honors. Members of the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll include Butler's Cole Graverson, Connecticut's Luke Broadhurst, Creighton's Hogan Helligso, Georgetown's Ubaldo Lopez and Xavier's Matthew DePrey.
Â
Seton Hall will return to action on Wednesday when it makes the short trip to local non-conference rival Princeton. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
