
Seniors Shine as Pirates Handle Bulldogs at Home, 76-64

Newark, N.J. - Led by 20-point nights from Dre Davis (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Kadary Richmond (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and another 19 points from Al-Amir Dawes (Newark, N.J.), the Seton Hall men's basketball team took care of Butler on Saturday night at Prudental Center, 76-64.
Davis scored a game-high 21 points and did so on 9-for-13 shooting from the field. Richmond scored 20 points on 8-of-16 shooting, while Dawes' 19 points included three 3-pointers. Jaden Bediako (Brampton, Ontario) also posted a strong night with nine points, nine rebounds and a team-best +17 plus-minus in 32 minutes.
How It Happened
The Pirates jumped on the Bulldogs early by racking up four steals in the first six minutes that turned into six points. With The Hall leading 12-3 at the 13:16 mark, Davis scored the next two baskets for the Pirates that gave them their biggest lead of the game 16-3, with 12:48 left in the first half.
Butler would go on a 10-2 run that cut its deficit to five, 18-13, but a Davis three-pointer and a Richmond layup pushed the Seton Hall lead back to 10, 23-13. Back-to-back threes by Dawes with under 2:30 left before halftime gave The Hall a 10-point lead once again, 37-27, but the Bulldogs answered with a 5-0 run that made the halftime score 37-32.
The first 10 minutes of the second half were tight as both sides traded baskets. Butler got within two points three times, the final time came after a dunk and a three-pointer that made it 53-51 with 10:33 to go. That trey for the Bulldogs would be their last field goal for the nearly seven minutes as the Pirates went on a 13-4 run that pushed their lead back to double-digits, 68-55 with 3:07 left. The Seton Hall lead would balloon to 14 with 2:21 left, its largest of the game.
