Indianapolis, Ind. – Silvia Alessio (Trieste, Italy) took home the gold medal in the women's 3-meter dive to highlight the third night of competition at the BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championships.
Alessio posted a total score of 337.50, good enough to surpass her program record of 337.20 which was set earlier this season at Bucknell. With the victory, Alessio becomes the first Pirates female diver to win a BIG EAST championship since Taylor Jackson in 2018.
The win for Alessio comes two days after taking home the silver medal in the 1-meter finals on Wednesday night. For Alessio on the season, she posted first-place finishes in all but two diving finals.
In the swimming events, Allie Waggoner (Moorestown, N.J.) added a bronze medal to her collection after taking third in the 400 IM. Waggoner finished the event with a time of 4:18.19, coming in over five seconds faster than her prelims time.
Later on in the evening, Natalie Heim (Middletown, N.J.) would take home a sixth-place time of 1:49.66 in the 200 Free. Heim swam the anchor of the 400 Medley Relay team which also consisted of Julie Stampe (Allerod-Birkerod, Denmark), Yosun Hacifazioglu (Istanbul, Turkey), and Sarah Frie (Waterford, Va.). That group finished in fifth place with a time of 3:47.85. Both Stampe and Hacifazioglu also posted wins in consolation finals on Friday, with Stampe taking the "C" final of the 100 Back in 56.86 and Hacifazioglu winning the "B" final of the 100 Breast in 1:03.89.
