Azana Baines is named to the BIG EAST First Team, while Savannah Catalon earns All-Freshman Team.
NEW YORK – The BIG EAST Conference announced on Thursday that Azana Baines (Blackwood, N.J.) was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team, while Savannah Catalon (Burleson, Texas) earned BIG EAST All-Freshman Team honors.
Â
Baines had a breakout campaign in her fifth and final year as a collegian in 2023-24 for the Pirates. Named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll seven times, she upped her scoring and rebounding averages from 8.5 points and 4.0 rebounds last year to 15.0 points and 6.1 rebounds in 2023-24. A starter in every BIG EAST game, she's one of only three players in the conference to rank among the Top-12 in points, rebounds, steals and blocks.Â
Â
Named to the Women's College All-Star Game Player Watch List, she reached the prestigious 1,000-points milestone against Connecticut on Feb. 7. She currently ranks 53rd on Seton Hall's career scoring list with 679 points.
Â
Catalon was one of only four unanimous selections to the All-Freshman Team and becomes the Pirates' first since 2020. Despite starting only two games this year, she finished the regular season ranked fourth with 8.1 points per game. Also one of the team's best defensive players, she led the team in fouls drawn on defense and charges drawn this season. Twice named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, Catalon ranks third in the BIG EAST in free-throw percentage at 88 percent and became only the third player in Seton Hall history to make all of her free-throws with a minimum of 10 attempts (11-for-11) in a single-game against DePaul on Feb. 17.
