
Pirates Play the Princeton Invitational Starting Saturday

The Hall will play three rounds at local Springdale Golf Club in Princeton.
PRINCETON, N.J. - The Seton Hall men's golf team will return to action on Saturday for the first two of three rounds of action at the Princeton Invitational at Springdale Golf Club, April 6-7.

THE COURSE
Dating back to 1895, Springdale Golf Club is one of the oldest in New Jersey. Designed by Gerard Lambert and revised by William Flynn in 1926, the walkable course requires precision shot-making and has superior conditions and playability. The property, which was originally private farmland, was purchased by the Class of 1886 and gifted to Princeton University with the expectation of establishing one of the first courses in the region. The private club has a close relationship with the University, and counts many university professors, administrators and students among its members.  With a fine and experienced PGA staff, the club hosts numerous tournaments, collegiate matches, clinics and golf outings every year.Â

In addition to Seton Hall and host Princeton, the field features teams from Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Howard, Penn, Rider, Saint Joseph's, Temple and Yale. BIG EAST opponent Georgetown is also in the field.

LAST TIME OUT
Wenliang Xie (Zhaoqing, China) fired a 3-under-par, 68, on Tuesday to lift the Seton Hall men's golf team to a ninth-place finish at the Redhawk Invitational.

Xie continued his impressive spring season with five birdies and an eagle on the par-5, No. 4 hole to fuel a 3-under-par, 68, on Tuesday. The performance shot him up to eighth place on the individual leaderboard out of 106 individual golfers. For the three-day event, Xie was 2-under-par with a 70-73-68-211. It's his third consecutive sub-par round and the fifth in his last six tournaments dating back to the fall. Xie now has 12 sub-par rounds for his career, which places him just one behind Pirates legend Lloyd Jefferson Go for most all-time.

Collectively, The Hall shot a 1-under-par, 287, in round three, its best of the tournament. For the two-day event, they were 10-over-par with a 291-288-287-866 to place ninth. Oregon State won the team title at a remarkable 25-under-par.

LAST TIME AT SPRINGDALE
Xie fired a 4-under-par, 67, in the final round to lift the Seton Hall men's golf team to a fifth-place finish at the Princeton Invitational in last year's event.

Xie's round was one of the best all season for any Pirate as he was flawless for 18 holes. He had four birdies and 14 pars in route to his best round of the year. For the tournament, Xie shot 28 spots up the leader board on the final day to tie for 18th place with an even-par, 78-68-67-213.

As a team, The Hall rounded out the Princeton Invitational with a 4-over-par, 288, in round three. The Pirates placed fifth with an even-par, 284-280-288-852, for the tournament. Harvard won the team title at 15-under-par. Seton Hall's lone BIG EAST competition, Georgetown, finished at 12-over-par.

The top individual Seton Hall performer for the tournament was George Fricker (Woodbridge, England). The sophomore finished up an impressive three rounds with a 4-over-par, 75, in round three. For the event, he tied for 10th with a 3-under-par, 67-68-75-210.Â

The teams will play five golfers and count the four lowest scores per round.

The field will play 36 continuous holes on Saturday and one final round on Sunday. Play begins with a tee times starting at 7:45 am on Saturday.  Sunday's final round will start with a shotgun at 10:00 a.m.Â
