
Xie Dazzles Again as Pirates Place Third at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. – Graduate student Wenliang Xie (Zhaoqing, China) shot a 4-under-par, 67, in Sunday's final round to lift the Seton Hall men's golf team to a third-place finish at the Princeton Invitational.

Xie continued his remarkable graduate season with another dazzling round on Sunday. He had seven birdies on the day, including birdies in five of his last seven holes to finish with a 4-under-par, 67. Xie finished just one stroke behind a trio of individual champions. For the tournament, Xie tied for fourth among 75 individual golfers with a 5-under-par, 71-70-67-208.

Remarkably, this was Xie's fourth consecutive sub-par tournament and the sixth in his last seven tournaments dating back to the fall season. He now has 13 sub-par tournaments for his career, which ties him with Pirates legend Lloyd Jefferson Go for most in Seton Hall history.

As a team, The Hall shot a 4-over-par, 288, in round three to finish third. For the tournament, the Pirates were 5-over-par with a 290-279-288-857. Host Princeton won the event at 9-under-par. Howard University finished second just one stroke ahead of The Hall. Georgetown, Seton Hall's lone BIG EAST competition, tied for ninth at 33-over-par.

After two fantastic round yesterday, senior Wanxi Sun (Danville, Calif.) shot an 8-over-par, 79, in round three. He just missed the top-10, finishing in a tie for 13th with a 3-over-par, 67-70-79-216.

Sophomore David Lally (Wicklow, Ireland) finished only one stroke behind Sun after a 5-over-par, 76, on Sunday. For the tournament, he tied for 15th with a 4-over-par, 73-68-217.

George Fricker (Woodbridge, England) continued to improve as the tournament progressed. The junior had three birdies and 13 pars today for a 1-under-par, 70. For the tournament, Fricker tied for 22nd place with a 7-over-par, 79-71-70-220.

Rounding out the Pirates' lineup was sophomore Jack Bosworth (Simsbury, Conn.), whose final round featured an eagle on the par-4, No. 6 hole on his way to a 4-over-par, 75. For the event, he was 15-over-par with an 82-71-75.

THE COURSE
Dating back to 1895, Springdale Golf Club is one of the oldest in New Jersey. Designed by Gerard Lambert and revised by William Flynn in 1926, the walkable course requires precision shot-making and has superior conditions and playability. The property, which was originally private farmland, was purchased by the Class of 1886 and gifted to Princeton University with the expectation of establishing one of the first courses in the region. The private club has a close relationship with the University, and counts many university professors, administrators and students among its members.  With a fine and experienced PGA staff, the club hosts numerous tournaments, collegiate matches, clinics and golf outings every year.Â

In addition to Seton Hall and host Princeton, the field featured teams from Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Howard, Penn, Rider, Saint Joseph's, Temple and Yale. BIG EAST opponent Georgetown is also in the field.
