
Pirates Drop Season-Opener to Ball State, 3-0

BOCA RATON, FLA. – Despite solid season-opening efforts by Perri Lucas (Chicago, Ill.), Maddie Klungel (Napa, Calif.) and newcomer Grace Turner (La Grange Highlands, Ill.), the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell to Ball State, 3-0 (21-25, 16-25, 19-25), on Friday.
Due to statistical errors in the opening set, a full compliment of match statistics won't be available until this afternoon.
SET 1:
Seton Hall tied the opening set at 18, forcing a Ball State timeout, but the Cardinals assumed control out of the break. The Cards scored five straight points to take a commanding 23-18 advantage and went on to win, 25-21.
SET 2:
Seton Hall scored the first point of the second set on a Ball State attack error, but the Cardinals responded with four straight points and never trailed again. A kill by Senna Roberts-Navarro (Honolulu, Hawaii) cut The Hall's deficit to 19-15, but Ball State closed the set with a 6-1 run to win, 25-16. The Pirates had just six kills to go with six attack errors for a .000 attack percentage in the second stanza, compared to .370 for the Cardinals.
SET 3:
The Hall scored four straight points, and a kill by freshman Gwen Adler (Barrington, Ill.) gave it a 7-5 advantage early in set three. Trailing 8-6, Ball State scored seven straight points and ran their run to 12-2, taking a commanding 18-10 advantage. Down 23-14, the Pirates tallied five of the next six points to cut the Cardinals lead to 24-19, but ultimately fell, 25-19.

The Pirates will play a second match today when it faces tournament host Florida Atlantic at 7:00 p.m. The Hall will wrap up play at the Florida Atlantic Invitational tomorrow when it takes on Bryant University at 11:00 a.m.
