The Pirates will return to action this weekend when it plays three matches at the Towson Invitational, Sept. 13 and 14. The Pirates will face Coppin State on Friday at 1:00 p.m. On Saturday, The Hall will take on both Loyola (Md.) and host Towson.

SCOUTING COPPIN STATE
Seton Hall and Coppin State will meet for only the second time in history on Friday. The Pirates swept the only prior meeting in 1998.

The Eagles are coming off a strong 2023 season, which included a 27-5 overall record and a dominant 13-1 mark in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play. Coppin State didn't lose a set in the three matches of the MEAC Tournament in route to its first conference championship. In the NCAA Tournament, the Eagles fell in the opening round at Pittsburgh in three sets.

This season, Coppin State is picked to finish second in the MEAC according to the conference's preseason coaches poll. TaKenya Stafford, the 2023 MEAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player, was named to the Preseason All-Conference Team.

Coppin State enters the weekend with a 3-4 record overall. They are coming off losses in two of three matches at the Chick-fil-A Robinson Classic in Pittsburgh last weekend. The Eagles swept Niagara on Saturday, but lost to both Robert Morris and Duquesne on Friday. Coppin State's other two victories were sweeps at the Red Storm Invitational over Northeastern and Central Connecticut State two weeks ago. The Eagles lost to St. John's in four sets.

SCOUTING LOYOLA (MD.)
Seton Hall and Loyola (Md.) will meet for only the third time in history on Saturday. The Pirates swept both prior meetings, in 1993, and most recently, in 2005.

The Greyhounds are coming off an 11-16 record in 2023 which included a 6-10 mark in the Patriot League. Loyola's season came to an end following a sweep at the hands of American in the opening round of the Patriot League tournament.  Â

Loyola (Md.) is picked to finish sixth in the nine-team Patriot League in 2024, according to its preseason coaches' poll. Graduate student Lauren Link was named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team. A two-time all-conference honoree, Link heads into her final season of competition with 1,019 kills after being one of the top outside hitters in the league the last three seasons.

The Greyhounds enter the weekend with a 1-5 record and are coming off an 0-3 showing at the Villanova Classic last weekend. Loyola (Md.) was swept by host Villanova on Friday and then lost five-set matches to Princeton and Old Dominion on Saturday. Their lone victory came in the season-opener against Queens (N.C.).

SCOUTING TOWSON
Seton Hall and Towson will meet for the fifth time in history on Saturday. The Pirates are only 1-3 in four prior meetings. Most recently, The Hall was swept by the Tigers on a neutral floor in 2019. The Hall's only win the series came in four sets in Walsh Gym during the 2016 season.

The Tigers are coming off a fantastic season in 2023, which saw a 24-6 final record, including a 16-2 mark in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play. Towson entered postseason play having won 10 straight matches and swept their semifinal contest in the CAA Tournament against Stony Brook, but was upset in the championship in four sets by Delaware.

This season, Towson has been projected to finish atop the CAA among the league's head coaches for the fourth consecutive season. Outside hitter Victoria Barrett was named the CAA Preseason Player of the Year after collecting All-CAA first-team honors in 2023. Middle blocker Erin Brothers and defensive specialist/libero Sydney Stewart each garnered All-CAA honorable mention recognition.

Towson is off to another fast start this season and enters the weekend with a 6-1 record. The Tigers are coming off a 2-1 weekend at the Charlotte Invitational where they swept Delaware State and host Charlotte, but suffered their first loss of the season, a five-setter to Tennessee Tech. Barrett currently leads the team with 3.41 kills per set.

UP NEXT
After the Towson Invitational, the Pirates will make the short trip to Brooklyn to take on LIU on Tuesday, Sept. 17. The match is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start.
