NEWARK, N.J. – Seton Hall women's cross country posted its best performance at the Metropolitan Championship, placing 2nd in a nine-team field with 46 total points, narrowly missing out on the team's Metropolitan Champions.
How it Happened
For the reigning Metropolitan Champions, the top of the timing sheets included a trio of familiar faces. Atop the heap for the Pirates were Caitlin Fahy and Honey Strosnider. After going the identical time as her teammate last week and placing higher on tiebreakers, Fahy achieved the same feet again. Despite registering the same time as Strosnider, Fahy secured second place overall with a time of 17:39.00. That result extends Fahy's streak of meets as a top-three Pirate finisher to nine consecutive meets. Strosnider, losing out on the tiebreaker, finished in third place.
Paige Quigley, the third member of the Pirates' defining trio, arrived not far behind the lead two as the third Pirate finisher. The junior finished in seventh place overall with a time of 17:54.00.
Laura Castagna continued her string of meets as a top-five Pirate finisher by securing another strong result. Cullum crossed the line 16th overall, fourth among The Hall's runners, with a time of 18:46.00. Her intra-team placing marked the 10th time in 12 meets that the senior has finished among the top-five Pirate runners.
The final Pirate to finish in the points-scoring placements was junior Kayla Carrino. Carrino earned her highest intra-team finish in a full-squad competition, crossing the line in 18th overall with a time of 18:39.00.
Despite those strong performances, the Pirates narrowly missed out on repeating as Mets Champions. Columbia, who registered 44 points to Seton Hall's 46, ended up claiming the title after all five of their scoring runners finished between sixth and eleventh.
What's Next
The Pirates will travel to Omaha, Neb., to compete at the 2025 BIG EAST Championships in on October 31.
