
Pirates Fall to No. 13 Creighton in Three Sets

OMAHA, NEB. – Freshman Sadie Reich (Wantagh, N.Y.) had a team-high eight kills, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell to No. 13 Creighton, 3-0 (21-25, 15-25, 16-25), on Sunday.

The game Pirates came out of the gates playing some of their best volleyball of the season in set one, tying the nation's No. 13 team 16 times, but was ultimately outlasted, 25-21, in a first set that featured nine lead changes.Â

Reich had eight kills to go with four digs. Junior Rylee Nelson (Mazeppa, Minn.) had a team-best 13 digs. Senior Asli Subasili (Tekirdag, Turkiye) had five kills, no attack errors and a .714 attack percentage.

SET 1:
Seton Hall played one of its best sets of the season to open the match with 16 ties and nine lead changes against the No. 13 ranked team in the country. The Pirates had a .267 attack percentage with only four attack errors in the opening set. A block by Subasili gave The Hall a 17-16 lead, but Creighton responded with an 8-2 run to enter set point, 24-19. Seton Hall staved off two set points, and a kill by Daria Safian (Moscow, Russia) cut its deficit to 24-21, but the Bluejays scored the next point to close out a 25-21 win.  Â

With the score tied at eight in set two, Creighton scored five points in a row and forced a Seton Hall timeout. A kill by Safian cut The Hall's deficit to 16-12, but the Bluejays scored four of the next five points to grab a commanding 20-13 advantage. Creighton went on to win set two, 25-15. The Hall's attack percentage dipped to .097 in set two.

Trailing 9-5, The Hall went on a 5-1 burst to tie the third set at 10. A kill by Subsili cut Seton Hall's deficit to 17-15, but the Bluejays closed out the match with an 8-1 run. Seton Hall had a -.053 attack percentage in the final set, compared to .308 for Creighton.

The Pirates will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 19 when they travel to Omaha, Neb. to take on defending BIG EAST champion Creighton. Match time is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. ET.
