
Pirates Fall in Indianapolis, 3-0

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – Freshman Alex Rasmussen (Lincoln, Neb.) had four kills and four blocks, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team was swept at Butler, 3-0 (22-25, 15-25, 17-25) on Friday.

Seton Hall dropped a close opening set, 25-22, and couldn't recover.

Freshman Sadie Reich (Wantagh, N.Y.) tied for a match-high nine kills, but she also had eight attack errors. Sophomore Gwen Adler (Barrington, Ill.), making her return from injury, had seven digs and three assists. Freshman Alexis Opland (Woodbury, Minn.) tallied eight assists, three blocks and two digs.

Junior Rylee Nelson (Mazeppa, Minn.) had a team-high nine digs.

SET 1:
A block by Rasmussen and Opland gave The Hall an early 5-4 lead, but Butler answered with a 7-1 run to grab an 11-6 lead. A kill by Asli Subasili (Tekirdag, Turkiye) cut The Hall's deficit to 13-9, but the Bulldogs scored the next four points to grab a commanding 17-9 advantage. Down 19-11, The Hall went on a 7-1 run, and a kill by Rasmussen, closed the Pirates to within two points, 20-18. A block by Subasili and Reich brought The Hall to within 23-22, but Butler closed out the opening set, 25-22.

The Pirates got off to a rough start in the second set as Butler scored nine of the first 11 points. A kill by setter Emilee Fuller (Louisville, Ky.) cut the Bulldogs' lead to 12-5, but Butler answered with back-to-back points to grab a 14-5 advantage. Down 20-10, The Hall scored four of the next five points, and an ace by Reich cut The Hall's deficit to 21-14. The Bulldogs regrouped to score four of the final five points and win 25-15. The Pirate had a -.057 attack percentage in set two.

A kill by Reich gave The Hall a 5-4 lead, but the Bulldogs responded with four straight points to grab the lead for good. Leading 11-8, Butler scored three straight to grab a 14-8 advantage. Rasmussen had a kill to cut The Hall's deficit to 20-17, but Butler closed out the match with five straight points to win 25-20. The Hall had a second-straight sub-zero attack percentage at -.054.

The Pirates will return to action tomorrow when they remain on the road to face Xavier in Cincinnati. Match time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. ET.
