CINCINNATI, OHIO – Junior Rylee Nelson (Mazeppa, Minn.) had a team-high 14 digs in only three sets, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell at Xavier, 3-0 (15-25, 13-25, 19-25), on Saturday.

The Hall had only a .053 attack percentage for the match, compared to .345 for Xavier.

Nelson had a team-best 14 digs to go with two assists. Freshman Daria Safian (Moscow, Russia) recorded a team-best seven kills along with four digs and two blocks. Freshman Sadie Reich (Wantagh, N.Y.) tallied six kills, only two attack errors and five digs.

SET 1:
A Xavier attack error cut The Hall's deficit in set one to 10-8, but the Musketeers rebounded with an 8-1 run to grab a commanding 18-9 advantage. Down 23-13, Seton Hall scored back-to-back points, and a kill by Safian brought the Pirates to within, 23-15, but Xavier responded with the final two points to win, 25-15. The Musketeers had a .480 attack percentage in the opening set.

SET 2:
Seton Hall never led in the second set as Xavier scored five of the first six points. The Hall closed its deficit to 6-4, but the Musketeers answered with five points in a row and forced a Pirates' timeout. The Pirates cut their deficit to 17-12, but Xavier closed out the set with an 8-1 run. The Hall had a -.071 attack percentage in set two.

SET 3:
A kill by Alex Rasmussen (Lincoln, Neb.) cut The Hall's deficit to 11-8 in set three. Xavier answered back with five of the next seven points to grab a 16-10 advantage. Down 23-17, a kill by Loukia Papadakos (Stoufville, Ontario) and an ace by Safian, brought the Pirates to within 23-18, but Xavier closed out the match with a 25-19 set three victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Nelson tallied 14 digs and two assists.
Safian had a team-high seven kills, four digs and two blocks.
Reich tallied six kills, only two attack errors and five digs.
Seton Hall recorded a .053 attack percentage for the match, while Xavier attacked at .345.
The Pirates finished with 23 team kills, while the Musketeers had 40.
The Hall recorded 32 digs, while the Musketeers had 49.
Seton Hall collected 4.0 blocks and Xavier had 8.0.

NEWS & NOTES:

Seton Hall drops to 6-15 overall and 0-10 in the BIG EAST, while Xavier improves to 19-2 overall and 8-1 in conference play.
The Pirates fall to 5-18 all-time against the Musketeers and have now lost 12 of the last 14 matches in the series.
The Hall is now 3-5 in three-set matches this season.
