
The Hall Drops Match at Xavier, 3-0

CINCINNATI, OHIO – Junior Rylee Nelson (Mazeppa, Minn.) had a team-high 14 digs in only three sets, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell at Xavier, 3-0 (15-25, 13-25, 19-25), on Saturday.

The Hall had only a .053 attack percentage for the match, compared to .345 for Xavier.Â

Nelson had a team-best 14 digs to go with two assists. Freshman Daria Safian (Moscow, Russia) recorded a team-best seven kills along with four digs and two blocks. Freshman Sadie Reich (Wantagh, N.Y.) tallied six kills, only two attack errors and five digs.

SET 1:
A Xavier attack error cut The Hall's deficit in set one to 10-8, but the Musketeers rebounded with an 8-1 run to grab a commanding 18-9 advantage. Down 23-13, Seton Hall scored back-to-back points, and a kill by Safian brought the Pirates to within, 23-15, but Xavier responded with the final two points to win, 25-15. The Musketeers had a .480 attack percentage in the opening set.

SET 2:
Seton Hall never led in the second set as Xavier scored five of the first six points. The Hall closed its deficit to 6-4, but the Musketeers answered with five points in a row and forced a Pirates' timeout. The Pirates cut their deficit to 17-12, but Xavier closed out the set with an 8-1 run. The Hall had a -.071 attack percentage in set two.

A kill by Alex Rasmussen (Lincoln, Neb.) cut The Hall's deficit to 11-8 in set three. Xavier answered back with five of the next seven points to grab a 16-10 advantage.  Down 23-17, a kill by Loukia Papadakos (Stoufville, Ontario) and an ace by Safian, brought the Pirates to within 23-18, but Xavier closed out the match with a 25-19 set three victory.

The Pirates will return to action on Halloween, Friday, Oct. 31 when they host Providence in historic Walsh Gymnasium. Match time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. ET.
