NEW YORK, N.Y. – The BIG EAST Conference announced Wednesday morning that defender Agustin Resch was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year. The award honors the most impactful defensive player in the BIG EAST as determined by the coaching staffs.
After spending the summer with Asheville City SC in USL League Two, Resch, a 2024 All-BIG EAST Second Team selection, returned to South Orange and was unanimously voted Preseason BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year by the conference's coaches. Once the season started, the towering 6-foot-6-inch centerback lived up to that reputation.
With all eyes on him, the Argentinian was the disruptive force at the center of a Seton Hall defense that ranked third in the BIG EAST and 31st nationally in goals allowed average (0.824 GAA). With his rare combination of height and speed, Resch blocked shots, shut down runs and disrupted shooting angles of some of the nation's top offensive players. Resch, alongside the rest of the Pirates' backline, held BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year Stefan Dobrijevic, BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year Zach Zengue and BIG EAST Freshman of the Year Guilherme Gomes to a total of one assist, six shots and two shots on goal across the three matches.

Offensively, Resch reached new heights in the Pirates' decisive offensive attack this season. Utilizing his height on set pieces and passing prowess, the centerback recorded career-high marks in goals (2), assists (3), and points (7) as The Hall tied its best offensive season of Head Coach Andreas Lindberg's tenure.
Resch's win also marks only the second time in program history that a Pirate has earned BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year honors. The Hall's only other win came in 1990 when Seton Hall Athletics Hall of Famer George Nazario won the award after his senior year.
