South Orange, N.J. - College Sports Communicators' announced Tuesday that six members of the Seton Hall men's soccer team were named to CSC's Academic All-District team: senior Axel Berglund (Turku, Finland), graduate student Sam Bjork (Huskvarna, Sweden), senior Konstantin Donalies (Bremen, Germany), senior Liam Guske (St. John's, Fla.) senior Matias Molina (Rosario, Argentina) and senior Agustin Resch (Arata, Argentina)
The All-District team recognizes the nation's top soccer student-athletes for their combined performances on the pitch and in the classroom. Athletes must have at least a 3.5 GPA. Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot.
Berglund (Business Finance & IT Management) capped off his final season in South Orange by appearing in all 19 games for the Pirates, starting 18 of them. The midfielder tied his career high in assists (3), including in the Pirates' crucial 1-0 win over St. John's in BIG EAST play.
Bjork's (MBA – Finance) crucial two-way play along the Pirates' backline played an essential role in the Pirates' success this season. Alongside shutting down opposing wings, the Swede logged a career high eight points, three goals and two assists, in 19 starts and 1,629 minutes, almost double his single-season minutes played high.
Donalies (Business Finance & IT Management), a four-year starter, appeared in and started all 16 games he was available for this season for The Hall. The German centerback who helped stifle opposing forwards logged his second career goal in the Pirates' regular-season finale against UConn.
Guske (Physics & Engineering), after starting every game for the Pirates over the last four seasons, logged the best season of his career at both ends of the pitch. The American logged a team-high 1,717 minutes and three assists while shutting down opposing wings as part of the Pirates' nationally regarded defense.
Molina (Business Finance) stepped between the posts as The Hall's clear starter and recorded one of the best seasons in program history. Across the Pirates' 19 games, Molina recorded a single-season school record 0.79 GAA, as well as reducing the career GAA record to 0.80 GAA on route to a 7-4-8 record. In Seton Hall's First Round matchup against Siena in the NCAA Tournament, the Argentinian made two saves in the decisive penalty shootout that the Pirates won 3-0 to advance to the Second Round.
Resch (Business Finance) sat at the heart of Seton Hall's backline and was essential to the team's defensive identity. The Argentinian was a menace in the offensive third and as a passer, logging career-high marks in goals (3) and assists (3). Defensively, the six-foot-six-inch-tall centerback was a menace to all who challenged him. By season's end, his work on both ends of the pitch earned him not only All-BIG EAST First Team honors, but also landed the senior the title of BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year. Resch became only the second player in program history to win that award, with Seton Hall Athletics Hall of Famer George Nazario last receiving the honor in 1990.
