South Orange, N.J. – United Soccer Coaches announced today that star defender Agustin Resch (Arata, Argentina) was named to the 2025 NCAA Division I Men's All-America First Team after a historic senior season.
Resch is The Hall's first First Team All-American since Sacha Kljestan received the honor in 2004. He is also the first All-American for the Pirates since CJ Tibbling and Lucas Dahn both landed on the All-America Second Team after the 2020 season.
"This is an amazing moment for Agustin and the program," said Head Coach Andreas Lindberg. "Over his three years with us, Agustin has grown not only as a player, but as a person and a leader, culminating in this honor that few Pirates have ever received. He is a shining example of what players can become when they choose to join Seton Hall and take advantage of the opportunities our program offers. He is extremely deserving of this award in every sense. We're excited to see him represent Seton Hall and make us proud as he is on his path to becoming a future professional player."
At the heart of the Pirates' defense, Resch served as the great force multiplier that powered The Hall to one of the nation's elite defenses. Aided by his elite speed, agility and size, Resch played over 1,600 minutes of stifling defense in a scheme that ended the season ranked third in the BIG EAST and 25th nationally with a 0.832 goals against average.
At the opposite end of the pitch, the Argentine center back took his offensive game to new heights in his final season in South Orange. Resch logged both a career high three goals and three assists this season, more than doubling his collegiate tallies in each category.
At season's end, Resch landed First Team All-East Region honors from the United Soccer Coaches and First Team All-BIG EAST as voted on by the conference's coaches. Additionally, the senior was named both Preseason BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year and the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year. His win in the latter award marks only the second time in program history that a Pirate has taken home the conference's top defensive honor, with the only other player to receive it being Seton Hall Athletics Hall of Famer George Nazario in 1990.
After a 7-3-7 regular season campaign that saw The Hall face the nation's toughest strength of schedule and rank 17th in the RPI, the team secured its first spot in the NCAA Tournament since the 2022 season. After winning the first-round match against Siena, the Pirates' first home tournament match since 2005, in a dramatic penalty shootout 1(3) -1(0), in which Resch scored the opening goal of the match, the Pirates fell in the second round to the No. 11 overall seeded Bryant Bulldogs. As a team, Seton Hall reached as high as the No. 21 spot in the national rankings, appearing in three of the 13 total editions this season.
Resch is the 18th Pirate to be named an All-American in Seton Hall men's soccer history, as well as the sixth to receive first-team honors. In total, three BIG EAST student-athletes were honored on the men's side, with Georgetown's Zach Zengue and Mitchell Baker receiving first and second team honors, respectively.
