
Valenzuela Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

NEW YORK – Seton Hall's Mariana Valenzuela (Mazatlan, Mexico) was named to the BIG EAST Women's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll on Monday.

She's the fourth different Pirate in the season's first five weeks to earn the impressive distinction.

Valenzuela continues to impress in her lone year in South Orange. The Mexico native averaged 16.0 points and 8.3 rebounds in three games last week. On Tuesday at Princeton, Valenzuela had 13 points, seven rebounds and two blocks. In Seton Hall's BIG EAST opener against Butler, she erupted for career-highs of 25 points and 13 rebounds to go with two blocks and two steals. It was her first career double-double. On Sunday at NC State, she added 10 points and five rebounds while guarding a 6-foot-6 opponent.

Villanova's Brynn McCurry was named BIG EAST Player of the Week, while Creighton's Ava Zediker was tabbed BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Those joining Valenzuela on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll include: Connecticut's Sarah Strong, Marquette's Skylar Forbes, St. John's Brooke Moore and Xavier's Mackenzie Givens.

Seton Hall will return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 2 when it makes the short trip to Princeton. Tip time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The game will be streamed live by ESPN+.
