Resch and Kauschke Earn First Team Selections, Lejbowicz Second Team
KANSAS CITY, MO. – The United Soccer Coaches announced Tuesday that defender Agustin Resch (Arata, Argentina) and midfielder Til Kauschke (Hamburg, Germany) were named to the All-East Region First Team, while forward Mikkel Lejbowicz (Farum, Denmark) landed on the All-East Region Second Team. The All-Region Teams are selected by NCAA Coaches to honor the top players in each geographic region designated by the organization.
Resch continued to cap off his senior season with this All-East Region First Team Selection. The Argentine, who was also named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, All-BIG EAST First Team and a MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist, produced one of the best seasons by a defense in program history. The towering 6-foot-6-inch centerback was a disruptive force in the Pirates' defensive third, utilizing his height and speed to block shots, shut down runs and disrupt shooting angles on a Seton Hall defense that ranked 26th nationally in goals allowed average (0.832 GAA). Offensively, his height on set pieces and passing prowess helped him record career highs in goals (3), assists (3), and points (9). Resch joins Lucas Dahn as the only other defender to receive all-region honors under Head Coach Andreas Lindberg's tenure.
Kauschke, an All-East Region First Team selection, served as the key piece at the center of the Pirates' offense. The German, who was also an All-BIG EAST Second Team selection, served as the midfield catalyst for everything the Pirates did offensively, setting career-high marks in minutes (1600), goals (4) and points (12), in addition to leading the team in assists (4). In the opening half of the season, he befuddled opposing defenses, collecting seven points in three games, including his first career brace against FDU. Kauschke's selection marked the first time The Hall has had a United Soccer Coaches All-Region Midfielder since Sacha Kljestan in 2005, who also was named to the first team.
Lejbowicz, alongside Kauschke, spearheaded the Pirates' offense to its best season under Head Coach Andreas Lindberg on his way to an All-East Region Second Team Selection. Also an All-BIG EAST Second Team selection, the Dane was dominant in the back stretch of the regular season, logging five goals in as many games. Lejbowicz led the team in shots (36), goals (7) and points (15) on the season. That prodigious attacking power landed the sophomore among the top offensive players in shots and points per game. He finished tied with past Seton Hall All-BIG EAST selections CJ Tibbling and Quenzi Huerman for the most goals in a single season by any player during Lindberg's tenure. However, Lejbowicz achieved the feat in the fewest games, minutes and shots of the trio.
The Pirates' three All-East Region selections set a new program record for The Hall's East Region tenure. The last time Seton Hall recorded three or more All-Region selections was back in 2005, when the team collected four selections as part of the Mid-Atlantic Region. This marks the 13th time overall that the Pirates have earned three or more selections on any all-region team.
