NEW YORK – Seton Hall's Zahara Bishop (Minneapolis, Minn.) was named BIG EAST Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week and teammate Jordana Codio (Winter Garden, Fla.) earned Weekly Honor Roll distinction on Monday.
Â
It's the second time in a row and the third time this season that Bishop has received the weekly conference recognition.
Â
Bishop continued her strong freshman season in a pair of Seton Hall contests last week. The guard nearly had a double-double at Xavier on Wednesday, scoring 10 points to go with nine rebounds and two assists. On Sunday against St. John's, Bishop had five points, four rebounds and made all three of her free-throw attempts.
Â
Codio led Seton Hall in scoring in both games last week, averaging a team-best 18.0 points to go with 5.0 rebounds per contest. In Wednesday's victory at Xavier, she tied her career-high with 22 points on an efficient 10-for-12 shooting from the floor. She also grabbed six rebounds and drained her only three-point attempt. On Sunday against St. John's, she had a game-high 14 points in a defensive battle against the Red Storm, with four rebounds.
Â
Connecticut's Sarah Strong was named BIG EAST Player of the Week. Those joining Codio on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll include: DePaul's Kate Novik, Georgetown's Brianna Scott, St. John's Daniela Abies and Villanova's Denae Carter.
Â
Seton Hall will return to action on Thursday, Feb. 26 when it hosts local BIG EAST rival Villanova in the final regular season home game of the season. Tip time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET. The game will be streamed live by Peacock and simulcast on NBCSN.
