
Aguilar Wins Again; Pirates Place Fifth at Rutgers Invite

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – For the fourth time in her young career, Marta Aguilar (Casares Malaga, Spain) took home an individual tournament title. The sophomore earned a share of the Rutgers Invitational and helped lead the Seton Hall women's golf team to a fifth-place finish.

Aguilar closed the tournament with two birdies and 14 pars for a 1-over-par, 72, in round three. For the tournament, she tied Penn's Mi Li for the title with a 6-over-par, 71-76-72-219. It's Aguilar's second title this spring and fourth of her career, two more than any other women's golfer in Seton Hall history.Â

As a team, Seton Hall shot a 31-over-par, 315, in round three. The Hall carded a 79-over-par, 312-304-315-931 for the tournament, which placed them fifth in the large field of 16 teams. Host Rutgers won the team title at 44-over-par. The Pirates were defeated by BIG EAST foe Georgetown, which shot eight strokes better, but downed St. John's, which finished at 101 strokes over par.

Renee Rane (New Delhi, India) struggled in round three, but still managed to finish as Seton Hall's second-best performer for the weekend. The junior finished tied for 26th place with a 23-over-par, 77-74-85-236.

Freshman Isabella Stewart (Wicklow, Ireland) had two birdies in route to a 7-over-par, 78, in round three. For the tournament, she tied for 38th place with a 25-over-par, 83-77-78-238.

Senior Anne-Sofie Ekman (Copenhagen, Denmark) shot a 10-over-par, 81, in round three. For the three-round event, she was 26-over-par with an 81-77-81-239.

Junior Kasumi Tran (Swansea, Wales) shot a 13-over-par, 84, on Sunday. She finishes the tournament at 31-over-par with an 83-77-84-244.

Competing as an individual, senior Lara Todorovic (Belgrade, Serbia) shot a 16-over-par, 87, in round three. She finished the tournament with a 46-over-par, 87-85-87-259.

THE COURSE:
Over 6,300 yards in length, the picturesque, tree-lined, PGA sanctioned course is a par 71 and offers a challenging layout with four teeing areas per hole. Highlights include narrow fairways, fast greens, and water hazards on seven holes. The 18-hole Rutgers University Golf Course is open to the general public and tee times start at 7 am weekdays and 6 am on weekends in the height of the season. Our targeted opening and closing dates, weather permitting, are March 1 and December 15.

Developed from a 9 hole facility, Rutgers University Golf Course was reopened on May 29, 1963 as an 18 hole facility. The course is located on Rutgers University's Busch Campus in Piscataway, and nearby points of interest are The Waksman Institute, Rutgers Medical School and multiple athletic facilities, including SHI Stadium. The mission of the course is to ensure that every player enjoys a timely round of golf played on superior fairways and true greens with uncompromising service and instruction.

Teams played five golfers and count the four lowest scores per round.
