- Title:
- Graduate Assistant
Marcus Matthews enters his second season on the Seton Hall Men’s Basketball staff as a graduate assistant, aiding first-year head coach Shaheen Holloway with all aspects of the program. Matthews, a former student-athlete at Southern New Hampshire University, came to South Orange in the summer of 2021 after a stint as an assistant coach for the Monsignor Scanlan High School Varsity Basketball team for seven seasons.
During his coaching campaign at Monsignor Scanlan, Matthews helped build the program from the CHSAA “B” Division to the “AA” Division in his time as an assistant coach, while also bringing them to their first CHSAA “AA” Final Four in school history in 2020. During his tenure, Matthews and Monsignor Scanlan sent four of their students to Division I programs, including George Mason, Fairleigh Dickinson, Dayton, and Robert Morris.
Before his time at Monsignor Scanlan, Matthews spent time as the head coach for the Castle Athletics AAU team from 2014-2018. Matthews coached Castle Athletics on the Adidas circuit and sent players to several Division I programs, with Providence, Georgia Tech, Richmond, Rider, St. Peter’s, and Stony Brook to name a few.
Matthews earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Justice Studies from Southern New Hampshire University in 2012, and his Master's in Education from Manhattanville College in 2021.
