SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. The Seton Hall volleyball team lost to Pittsburgh in three games (30-18, 30-23, 30-26) on Sunday afternoon. After the Pirates (14-12, 3-7 BE) fell behind two games, they had a good start in game three, but it was not enough as the Panthers (19-7, 7-3 BE) went on for the sweep.
Freshman Allie Matters (North Tonowanda, N.Y.) continued her strong play, recording her fourth straight double-double. Matters finished the match with 11 kills and 14 digs. Sophomore Tricia Meyers (Cincinnati, Ohio) had 10 kills, including six in the third game. Sophomore Brittany Rahrer (Fort Wayne, Ind.) registered 36 assists.
Trailing 2-0, the Pirates started well in game three, taking an 8-3 lead. The Panthers came back to take the lead at 13-11. Pittsburgh was looking to finish the match and held a 27-22 advantage, but Seton Hall rallied to take the next four points and cut their deficit to 27-26. Pittsburgh regrouped and went on a 4-0 run to win the game, and the match.
The Pirates return to action with a BIG EAST match against Villanova, on Friday, Nov. 3, in Villanova, Pa., at 7:30 p.m.
