STORRS, CONN.- The Seton Hall volleyball team lost its second match of the weekend, falling to Connecticut, 3-0 (30-26, 31-29, 30-20). The Pirates were competitive with the Huskies for most of the match, but the Huskies prevailed for the win.
For the Pirates (11-10, 2-4 BE), freshman Allie Matters (North Tonowanda, N.Y) led the way with 14 kills and 12 digs. Sophomore Tricia Meyers (Cincinnati, Ohio) had 10 kills, and sophomore Breanna Leisner (Bloomington, Ill.) posted eight kills and 10 digs for the match.
Seton Hall started the match playing catch-up with Connecticut (13-6, 2-3 BE) in game one. The Huskies took a quick 3-0 lead, but the Pirates responded and took a 7-6 lead. Connecticut then went on a 9-2 run to take the lead at 15-9. With the score 17-12, Seton Hall came back again, eventually tying the score at 20-20. The Huskies took the next point and never lost the lead, winning game one 30-26.
In game two, Connecticut was the team playing from behind, as the Pirates led 17-13. The Huskies went on a quick run to tie the game at 17, and took a 19-18 lead. Seton Hall recovered and regained the lead, and extended it to 24-21. Connecticut stayed close, tying the game at 25, but the Pirates held on and kept the lead. The Pirates were serving for the match at 29-28 when the Huskies rattled of 3 straight points to take game two, and eventually the match, in game three.
The Pirates return to action Wednesday, Oct. 11, when they take on Fordham on the road, at 7:00 p.m.
