SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Kris Zeiter, head coach at Iona the past two seasons, has been named the new head volleyball coach at Seton Hall, Director of Athletics Joe Quinlan announced on Thursday. Zeiter brings seven years of head coaching experience to South Orange.
“Kris’ head coaching experience, enthusiasm and volleyball connections both regionally and nationally are what make this a great fit for our program,” Quinlan said. “Combined with our strong foundation of young talent and Kris’ commitment to academic excellence, we will be positioned for future success. We are very excited to welcome Kris to the Seton Hall family.”
At Iona, Zeiter compiled an overall record of 30-35, but was 14-4 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. In 2004, his first year with the Gaels, he led the team to the MAAC Championship and an NCAA berth, ending the year with a 19-16 record, 8-1 in the conference. It marked the school’s first-ever NCAA appearance and the Gaels lost in the first round to top-seeded Nebraska. In 2005, the Gaels were 11-19 overall and 6-3 in the league for a third-place finish.
Zeiter, a native of Dallas, Texas, was the head coach at NCAA Division II Concordia College in Bronxville, N.Y., from 1999-2003, posting a 65-60 record. In 2001, he led the squad to a third-place NYCAC finish and its first-ever NCAA Northeast regional ranking (7th) and its first trip to the ECAC tournament where Concordia finished second. In 2002, Coach Zeiter guided the Clippers to a 17-12 overall record and a 9th place regional finish. In five years, Concordia reached the NYCAC playoffs each year and went 29-27 in the conference.
During his time at Concordia, he was also an assistant men’s volleyball coach for the Clippers’ Division I program. A 1998 graduate of Concordia with a degree in Behavioral Science, Zeiter was a three-year starter and two-time captain on the Clippers. He also attended Park College in Kansas City, Mo., during the 1993-94 academic year and played for the volleyball team.
