KINGSTON, R.I The volleyball team came back from a two game deficit to defeat Rhode Island (18-30, 33-35, 30-19, 30-19, 15-12) at the Ram Classic. The Pirates are now riding a six match winning streak and improve to 7-4 on the year, while the host Rams are now 3-8.
Leading Seton Hall was sophomore Brittany Rahrer (Fort Wayne, Ind.) who had a career high 67 assists, which is the third highest total in a single match in Pirate history. Freshman Allie Matters (North Tonowanda, N.Y.) also had a career high in kills, with 22, and added11 digs. Sophomore Tricia Meyers (Cincinnati, Ohio) tallied 18 kills and senior Jessica Pompei (Fairview Park, Ohio) had 21 digs.
In the deciding game, both teams stayed with each other until the score was tied 7-7. Then the Pirates went on a 6-1 run to take 13-8 lead. At match point for the Pirates, the Rams tried to make one last run, coming within two points, but an attack error by Rhode Island capped the Seton Hall win.
The Pirates have two more matches on Saturday, Sept. 16, at the Ram Classic against Boston College at 11:00 a.m. and Towson at 3:00 p.m.
