WASHINGTON, D.C.- Volleyball opened up conference play with a win against Georgetown in four games (30-23, 30-25, 26-30, 30-22). The Pirates remain one of the hottest teams in the league, winning eight of their last nine matches. Seton Hall is now 9-5 on the season.
For the Pirates, senior Jessica King (Midland, Ontario) had 15 kills and a hitting percentage of .393 for the match. Freshman Allie Matters (North Tonowanda, N.Y.) also put up 15 kills and added 13 digs. Sophomores Brittany Rahrer (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and Tricia Meyers (Cincinnati, Ohio) also played key roles in the win. Rahrer, the BIG EAST leader in assists per match, had 59 assists, and Meyers tallied 14 kills and a .522 hitting percentage.
With the Pirates leading the match 2-0, Georgetown captured a game three win. Seton Hall then went on a 7-1 run in game four to take a 17-7 lead. The Hoyas cut the deficit to 20-16, but Seton Hall held off Georgetown, winning the match 30-22 on a Matters ace.
The Pirates continue their BIG EAST schedule on Sunday, Sept. 24, at 1:00 p.m. against the South Florida Bulls.
