NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - The Seton Hall volleyball team won its fourth straight after a sweep of Rutgers (30-27, 30-21, 30-23) on Sunday. The victory guarantees the Pirates (15-11; 5-7 BE) will finish over .500 in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1997, and keeps them in the hunt for the postseason.
Sophomore Allie Matters (North Tonowanda, N.Y.) earned her sixth consecutive double-double with 14 kills and 12 digs. Junior Tricia Meyers (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the team with 15 kills and a .419 attack percentage. Senior Jennifer Procuniar (Grapevine, Texas) had 13 digs, and junior Brittany Rahrer (Fort Wayne, Ind.) handed out 37 assists.
The Scarlet Knights took an early 9-6 lead in game one, but it was not enough to hold off Seton Hall. Trailing 14-13, the Pirates scored five of the next six points to take an 18-15 lead. Rutgers closed the gap to a point on five occasions, but Seton Hall never gave up the lead and won the game, 30-27.
Seton Hall used solid starts in the second and third games to hold off the Knights, and earned just its third sweep of the season.
The Pirates travel to Milwaukee, Wisc. To face off against Marquette on Friday, Nov. 9. First serve is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
