
Golf Prepares for BIG EAST Championship This Weekend

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall golf team travels to Louisville, Ky. this weekend to compete at the BIG EAST Championship from Apr. 22-24. This season, Seton Hall is the No. 8 seed out of 12 teams competing in the 54-hole tournament.
As a team, the Pirates have finished in the top-five six times over the season, including their last three tournaments of the spring. The highight of the year came back in September when Seton Hall won the Rutgers Invitational, marking the first team victory in five years.
Junior Kyle Morris (Powell, Ohio) is considered one of the favorites to win the individual title at the BIG EAST's. He has been the most consistant player on the year is playing his best golf at the right time. Morris has won two straight tournaments at the George Washington Invitational with a score of -2 (69), and the Navy Spring Invitational shooting a -3 (141). At the Treasure Coast Classic, he set a school-record with an 18-hole score of 63 as he went on to finish tied for second. Morris has been the Pirates low-scorer in four tournaments and has a scoring average of 72.5 on the year.
Freshmen David Sampson (Warren, R.I.) and Ryan Castanet (McDonald, Pa.) have come in and made immediate impacts this season. Sampson has been the Pirates second low scorer in each of their four spring tournaments shooting an average of 73.1 in those competitions. Castanet has competed in each spring tournament as well and has scored an average of 75.9.
Junior Rich Brazeau (Portsmouth, N.H.) has also been a key component to Seton Hall's success. Brazeau has been in the Pirates' top-five in three-of-four spring tournaments posting a scoring average of 77.6.
The Pirates have previously won the BIG EAST Championship in 1992 and again in 2000.
