BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Seton Hall volleyball team fell to Boston College, 3-2 (19-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-22, 15-10), on Saturday morning. The Pirates drop to 0-2 on the season, while BC evened its record to 1-1.
Freshman Olivia Trudeau (Shell Beach, Calif.) earned her first career double-double after posting 43 assists and 13 digs. Junior Sarah Osmun (Crystal Lake, Ill.) led the offense with 23 kills.
The Hall trailed 8-5 to begin the first set, but ripped off a 9-2 run, keyed by three kills by Morgan DeVries (Grand Rapids, Mich.), to take a 14-10 lead. The Golden Eagles closed within one point on two occasions, but the Pirates scored eight of the next 11 points to take the opening set, 25-19.
Boston College jumped out to a 12-4 lead in the second frame. Seton Hall methodically chipped away and cut the deficit to two after a Megan Matusiak (Winfield, Ill.) kill. The Eagles took the next point to make it set point and Tsvetlina Dureva scored on the next sequence to tie the match at, 1-1.
In the third, SHU fell behind 9-5, but rallied to tie the score at 13-13 and took the lead after DeVries and Trudeau teamed up for a block. BC came back to tie the score twice, but the Pirates never relinquished the lead and held on to win the set, 25-21.
After falling behind again, sophomore Krissy Wrobel (Reading, Pa.) sparked another comeback in the fourth set with a solo block and a kill to bring Seton Hall within a point at 10-9. The Pirates scored the next two points to take the lead, but Boston College regrouped to regain the advantage, 13-12. SHU capitalized on a pair of miscues by the Eagles to regain the lead and Osmun strung together a pair of kills to push the margin to 18-14.
Boston College scored four straight to tie the score, but the Pirates answered with three straight to regain a 21-18 margin. Just as it looked like Seton Hall was going to finish the match, the Golden Eagles mounted another comeback and took a 23-22 lead after back-to-back kills by Jordan Meredith. BC scored the next two points on a block and an ace to force the deciding set.
BC took the momentum from the fourth set victory and used it to take a commanding 12-7 lead in the fifth and held on to win, 15-10.
