NORMAN, OKLA. - The Seton Hall men's golf team received the President's Special Recognition by the Golf Coaches Association of America for having a team grade point average of above 3.5 during the 2008-09 academic year. The Pirates were one of only seven Division I men's golf programs to earn the prestigious distinction.
Joining Seton Hall on the Division I President's Special Recognition list was Belmont, Detroit Mercy, East Carolina, Georgia Tech, Rice and East Tennessee State, which was named Academic National Champion.
To be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors a college of university must submit the grade points earned and hours attempted for each player on its official squad list for the academic year.
This honor is only the latest in a summer that has seen several academic honors awarded to the Seton Hall men's golf team. In July, the Pirates received the Academic Excellence Award from the BIG EAST as the conference's top academic golf team. Later that month, individuals John Zur, Ryan Castanet and David Sampson were all named 2009 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars marking the first time that Seton Hall had three honorees in a single-year.
The Pirates will begin the 2009 fall golf season this Sunday, Sept. 6, at the 2009 Turning Stone/Tiger Intercollegiate in Verona, N.Y.
