
Cross Country Opens Season at Monmouth

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's cross country team opened the 2009 season with a third place finish at the Monmouth XC Kickoff meet on Saturday morning. The men's team turned in fifth place finish at the event.
Freshman Eloisa Paredes (Clifton, N.J.) was the top finisher for the women, hitting a time of 16:24.35 to place 22nd. Junior KeAira Dickerson (Wilmington, Del.) and senior Diane Szaflarski (Clifton, N.J.) were the next two runners to cross the tape, respectively. Dickerson wrapped up in 16:27.50, with Szaflarski following .44 seconds later. Freshman Hughnique Rolle (Nassau, Bahamas) ran a 16:40.26 to place 29th, and junior Alexandra Hehn (Toms River, N.J.) came in 31st (16:45.03).
Freshman Jared Hanko (Montville, N.J.) paced the men's squad with a 23rd place finish, completing the race in 20:20.22. Sophomore Austin Tobelman (West Chester, Pa.) turned in a 40th place finish (20:50.00), followed by senior Patrick McGovern (Granton, R.I.) who placed 51st (21:27.22). Sophomore Erik Chester (Danieltown, Conn.) hit a time of 21:36.32, good enough for 58th place and junior Dwight Parker (Randallstown, Md.) finished 58th (22:02.63).
The Pirates return to action at the Iona Meet of Champions on September 19 at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y.
