SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Head volleyball coach Kris Zeiter has announced the addition of Sam Duncan (Tucson, Ariz.) and Jamie Froning (Huntington Beach, Calif.) to Seton Hall's 2011 recruiting class.
They join Olivia Desormey (St. Charles, Ill.), Shelbey Manthorpe (Merion Station, Pa.) and Stacey Manthorpe (Merion Station, Pa.), who all signed in the fall.
Duncan, a five-foot-eleven setter, was a four-year member of the varsity program at Sahuaro High School. She was named Second Team All-Southern Arizona High School Volleyball as a senior and First Team All-Kino Region High School Volleyball as a junior and senior. Since 2008, Duncan has been a member of the Zona Volleyball Club, serving as the sole setter in her last three years. Academically, she ranked sixth in her class of 350 students and was president of National Honor Society.
"I am very excited to add Sam to our team for this fall," said Zeiter. "It is going to help our team to have another setter who can play at a high level. Sam is a very hard-working player and is going to be a great student-athlete here at Seton Hall."
Froning, a six-foot outside and opposite side hitter, was a four-year player and three-year starter at Mater Dei High School. A member of the Golden West Volleyball Club, she earned one National and one American bronze medal in the Junior Olympics and recently helped her team to victory at a Southern California qualifier for another national bid. Froning, an honor roll student, also won the Andi Collins Award for competitiveness and leadership after returning from an injury in time for playoff competition.
"Jamie is going to add depth to both the outside hitter and opposite hitter positions," Zeiter said. "She can play all the way around and is a very versatile and controlled hitter. She comes from top-level club and high school teams in California, so I expect her to adjust quickly to collegiate volleyball."
The Seton Hall volleyball program will kick off the 2011 season on August 26 at the Colgate Invitational.
