Seton Hall was receiving votes in last week's NSCAA Northeast region poll but used a dominant 2-0 win at Lehigh last Friday to vault into the top-10.
"I think we have had a great team effort so far this year on both ends of the field," Seton Hall women's soccer head coach Kazbek Tambi said. "We've been able to put the ball in the net in every game and collectively the defense has been fantastic in terms of giving up very few good opportunities. While it is great to be recognized at this juncture of the season but we hope to be in an even better spot at the end of the season."
The Pirates have started their 2012 campaign with three-straight shutouts and the defense has not yielded a shot on goal since the season opener against LIU-Brooklyn. The last time Seton Hall opened a season with three-straight wins was 1998 and it marks the first time since the 1996 season The Hall has begun a season with 270 minutes of shutout soccer.
The offense has looked balanced through the first two weeks of the season with five different players accounting for the team's five goals.
The NSCAA Northeast rankings include nine teams out of the BIG EAST conference in the top-10, with eighth-ranked Boston University being the lone exception. Indications are that as is the case in most seasons, the BIG EAST will offer difficult tests at every turn.
"The toughest part of our season is yet to come," Tambi added. "The BIG EAST is one of the top leagues in the entire country and the rankings demonstrate that. These games that we are playing leading up to the conference season are important so that we can have some great games against some super opponents down the road."
Seton Hall (3-0) returns to action on Tuesday night when it hosts Monmouth University on Owen T. Carroll Field at 7 p.m. The Pirates continue their two-game home stand on Friday afternoon against Delaware at 4 p.m.
