MGolf Takes on Rutgers Invitational

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Seton Hall men's golf team will head down the New Jersey Turnpike to Rutgers University for the Rutgers Invitational, a yearly tournament for the Pirates, Sept. 15-16.
Fifteen teams will compete in the three-round event on Rutgers' par-71, 6,337-yard golf course. In addition to the Pirates and Scarlet Knights, the tournament will feature teams from Adelphi, Daemen, Fairfield, FDU, Lafayette, Manhattan, Monmouth, Rider, St. Francis (N.Y.), St. Peter's, St. Thomas Aquinas, defending tournament champion USC Upstate and Wagner.
This is a 54-hole tournament with two rounds being played on Friday and a third final round being played on Saturday.
Seton Hall has participated plenty in this tournament over the years. The Pirates have competed at the Rutgers Invitational in eight of the last nine years, with team victories in 2006 and 2008.
Last season, Seton Hall placed third in the team event, 22 strokes behind USC Upstate and just one stroke behind Saint Peter's for second place. The Pirates fired a 24-over-par, 293-291-292-875. For a second straight year it was John Dawson Neufeld who led the Pirates with the low score. A year after winning the individual title, Neufeld tied for fifth place overall with a 4-over-par, 72-75-70-217.
Troy Spencer and Gary Dunne (Wicklow, Ireland) also had strong performances, finishing in the top -10. Spencer finished 10th at 6-over-par, while Dunne tied for eighth at just 5-over-par.
This is Seton Hall second tournament of the 2012 fall season. The Pirates are coming off a 12th place finish at the Navy Fall Classic last weekend. Derrick Kim (New City, N.Y.) and Marc Kunesch (Newton, N.J.) tied for 46th place among all golfers with a 10-over-par, 152, to lead the Pirates.
