Barnabas Health Intercollegiate Fact Sheet
This is the fifth year in the tournament's newest iteration and the fourth time it'll be at the Pirate's home course at Fidder's Elbow. Last year, the event was held at Chatham's Fairmount Country Club.
A field of 15 teams will take on the par-72, 7,014-yard River Course at Fiddler's Elbow. In addition to host Seton Hall, participating schools include Fairleigh Dickinson, Fordham, Iona, LaSalle, LIU-Brooklyn, Manhattan, Monmouth, Robert Morris, Saint Peter's, St. Francis (N.Y.), St. Francis (Pa.), Temple, Minnesota and Wagner.
The River Course, with most holes originally designed by Hal Purdy in 1965 and the new holes designed by Brian Silva in 1989 was renovated in 2008; it is a Parkland style course with rolling terrain. The course is fairly forgiving off of the tee and the true test comes with the approach shots and on the greens which are challenging due to the contours where one must try to keep the ball below the hole to have the best opportunity to make putts.
Saint Peter's won the event last season with LIU-Brooklyn's Obediah Ayton taking the individual title. Seton Hall tied with Manhattan for eighth place. Two years ago, when the Barnabas Health Intercollegiate was last at Fiddler's Elbow, the Pirates finished second with a 20-over-par, 297-299-596.
This year, participating Pirates will include freshman Derrick Kim (New City, N.Y.), Lloyd Jefferson Go (Guadalupe Cebu City, Philippines, JT Harper (Pebble Beach, Calif.), Cory Wilson (Newton, N.J.) and senior Gary Dunne (Wicklow, Ireland.
Seton Hall is coming two straight top-5 finishes. Most recently, the Pirates tied for fourth among 17 teams at the Temple Invitational. They matched their season-best against par at 22-over. Kim notched his third career top-10 finish, tying for 10th place among 93 individual golfers. For the two-round event, he shot a 4-over-par, 73-71-144.
The Barnabas Health Intercollegiate is a 36-hole stroke play event with 18 holes being played per day. The teams will start on Sunday with a shotgun at 1:00 p.m. Play on Monday will commence at 8:30 a.m. Complete results will be available once all teams have completed their round each day at www.SHUpirates.com and Golfstat.com.
