BEDMINSTER, N.J. - Freshman Lloyd Jefferson Go (Guadalupe Cebu City, Philippines) fired another sub-par round on Monday to finish the 2013 Barnabas Health Intercollegiate at 5-under-par and lead the Seton Hall men's golf team to a third place team finish at Fiddler's Elbow Country Club.
Go completed a historic fall season for the Pirates, notching his second sub-par tournament of the fall with a 5-under-par, 69-70-139, to place third among 75 individual golfers. The freshman finished just two strokes behind the individual champion, Brandon Matthews of Temple.
Collectively, the Pirates finished the two-day event with a 20-over-par, 294-302-596. Minnesota won the team championship and was the only school to finish under par (-5). Temple placed second, eight strokes ahead of the Pirates. The fall season ends on a high note for Seton Hall as it'll enter the offseason coming off three straight top-5 team finishes. Today's third place tally is the highest of the fall.
Go's weekend performance can't be understated. His tournament score of 139 ties Seton Hall Athletics Hall of Famer Eugene Smith for the lowest two-round, par-72 score in Pirates history. Furthermore, his 5-under-par score is tied for the third-lowest against par in history. Go also becomes only the 10th golfer in Seton Hall history to record multiple sub-par tournaments. He shot 1-under-par at The Doc Gimmler earlier this fall.
JT Harper (Pebble Beach, Calif.) was the second-best Pirate golfer this weekend. The junior shot a 5-over-par, 72-77-149 to tie for 13th place overall.
Gary Dunne (Wicklow, Ireland) and Cory Wilson (Newton, N.J.) tied for 30th place overall at 11-over-par. Dunne finished with a 76-79-155, while Wilson had a 79-76-155.
Derrick Kim (New City, N.Y.) tied for 35th place with a 12-over-par, 77-79-156.
This was the fifth year in the tournament's newest iteration and the fourth time it'll be at the Pirate's home course at Fidder's Elbow. Last year, the event was held at Chatham's Fairmount Country Club.
A field of 15 teams is taking on the par-72, 7,014-yard River Course at Fiddler's Elbow. In addition to host Seton Hall, participating schools included Fairleigh Dickinson, Fordham, Iona, LaSalle, LIU-Brooklyn, Manhattan, Monmouth, Robert Morris, Saint Peter's, St. Francis (N.Y.), St. Francis (Pa.), Temple, Minnesota and Wagner.
The 2013 Barnabas Health Intercollegiate completes the fall season for the Pirates. Seton Hall will return to the links this spring.
