CARMEL, IND. - Seton Hall freshman Christiana Rutkowski (Middletown, N.J.) continued to add to a growing resume at the 2014 BIG EAST Championship on Friday, pacing the women's cross country team with a 6K time of 22:27.8; earning a 41st-place finish.
Though the site has changed a number of times throughout the years, Rutkowski's final mark was the fastest by a Seton Hall female at the conference meet since Kerry Cahill posted a 22:22.6 to take 56th-place in 2007. Her 41st-place ranking was also the top performance for The Hall on the women's side since the turn of the century.
The impressive showing adds to a ledger that includes two individual victories and team-leading times in all seven of her appearances.
As a team, the Pirates placed 10th while Georgetown earned the women's team title behind individual champion Katrina Coogan (20:31.0).
Senior Mary Migton (Ledgewood, N.J.) crossed the line second for The Hall in her final trip to the BIG EAST Championship, recording a time of 23:17.0 (58th-place). Migton has now recorded a top-three time on the squad in all four of her conference meet appearances, highlighted by a 22:32.9 showing that led SHU as a freshman.
The consistent Desyre Blackburn (Aloha, Ore.) ranked third on the team for the second consecutive year at the BIG EAST meet, clocking in at 24:03.2 to finish among the Pirates' top-three for the 14th time in 16 career races.
Also cracking the scoring group amidst adverse conditions were junior Amanda Quaglia (Reading, Pa.) and freshman Bailey Seach (Winston Salem, N.C.). Quaglia completed the course in 25:10.1 while Seach registered a 25:47.4 mark.
Quaglia has now scored for Seton Hall in three-straight trips to the BIG EAST Championship as well as all six events she has competed in this fall. Seach's effort was the fifth scoring time of this, her first collegiate campaign.
Two championship meets remain on the fall schedule for the Pirates as the squad will head to University Park, Pa. in two weeks to challenge the field at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional. Start-time is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
