
MGolf Finishes Sixth at Fall-Opening Turning Stone

VERONA, N.Y. - Sophomore Kevin O'Brien (Wexford, Pa.) shot a team-best 2-under-par, 70, in Monday's final round as the Seton Hall men's golf team finished sixth at the 2014 Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate in Verona, N.Y.
O'Brien bested his teammates by four strokes in the final round and shaved eight strokes off his previous best round this tournament. He finished the three-round event at 11-over-par with a 78-79-70-227 to tie for 14th place among 58 individual golfers.
Collectively, Seton Hall placed sixth place among the field of 11 schools with a 49-over-par, 308-307-298-913. As noted, the Pirates shaved nine strokes off their second round score, but several teams saw significant improvement on Monday so The Hall remained in sixth place. The Pirates finished 43 strokes behind the team champion, Missouri. The host Tigers won the event for the fourth time in six years, this time besting the field by 10 strokes.
Only one other BIG EAST team competed this weekend. Villanova finished in a tie for fourth place only two strokes ahead of the Pirates.
Sophomore Lloyd Jefferson Go (Guadalupe Cebu City, Philippines) was the top Seton Hall golfer for the tournament for a seventh straight event. The reigning BIG EAST Freshman of the Year finished the three-round event at 7-over-par with a 75-73-75-223 and in a tie for eighth place overall.
Senior JT Harper (Pebble Beach, Calif.) rebounded nicely on Monday after a rough second round. Harper fired a 2-over-par, 74, in round three and finished the event at 15-over-par with a 77-80-74-231.
Newcomer Ryan Snouffer (Sparta, N.J.) finished just one stroke behind Harper for 31st place overall. The junior was 16-over-par with a 78-75-79-232.
Rounding out the Pirates' team scoring for the weekend was junior Cory Wilson (Newton, N.J.). He shot a 52-over-par, 90-89-89-268.
Junior David Cha (Carrollton, Texas), competing as an individual, had a strong tournament. After posting a disappointing 81 in round one, he bounced back with a 73 and 75 to finish in a 17th place tie at 13-over-par.
The tournament consisted of three rounds, played over two days with the first two rounds commencing on Sunday. A field of 11 teams will take on the par-72, 7,105-yard Kaluhayat Course at Turning Stone. In addition to Seton Hall, competing teams included Central Connecticut State, Cleveland State, Detroit, LeMoyne, McDaniel College, Robert Wesleyan, Sacred Heart, Saint Peter's, Stevenson, Villanova and host Missouri.
Seton Hall will return to the links this Saturday for the first of two rounds at the Navy Fall Classic in Annapolis, Md.
