Blackshear Named to BIG EAST Honor Roll

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Seton Hall sophomore goalkeeper Illissa Blackshear (West Orange, N.J.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll the conference announced on Monday.
Blackshear is the first Pirate to earn weekly recognition from the conference this fall and played her way into the honor by helping The Hall emerge unbeaten from a pair of road trips to Princeton and Army.
Making just the third start of her career, the West Orange native totaled six stops against the Tigers as the Pirates played Princeton to a scoreless draw for the second consecutive season. The shutout was also the first of her career and came in her fourth-ever appearance.
For an encore, Blackshear came up big for the Pirates when she was called upon at West Point, keeping the Black Knights off the board into the second overtime with four more saves. With the match still all square in the 104th minute, freshman Jackie Saint John (Ridgefield, N.J.) sent The Hall home victorious with the first goal of her career.
With two-straight shutouts under her belt, Blackshear has ascended to the top of the conference rankings in both goals against average (0.62) and save percentage (.885). The sophomore also stands second in the league in shutouts per game (0.40) and fourth with an average of 4.60 saves per game.
Blackshear and junior Gina Maiorana (Street, Md.) - who started the first three contests of the year - have combined to post a 0.68 goals against average, the lowest mark among 10 teams in the BIG EAST.
Seton Hall resumes action tonight at Owen T. Carroll Field against Columbia. Kick-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
