SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's volleyball team registered its second sweep of the day with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-18) victory over Siena to close the first day of the 2014 Seton Hall Invitational.

Once again, the Manthorpe sisters dominated for Seton Hall. Shelbey Manthorpe (Merion Station, Pa.) had a game-high 33 assists, eight digs and six kills. Stacey Manthorpe (Merion Station, Pa.) registered a season-high 13 kills to go with seven digs.

Spreading their offense around, the Pirates also received seven kills from Amanda Hansen (Pewaukee, Wis.), Ashani Rubin (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Simona Sekulova (Auckland, New Zealand).

Both teams played strong defense in set one, which led to long rallies and low hitting percentages. Trailing 13-11 in set one, the Pirates scored four straight points to take a 15-13 lead that they would not relinquish. Clinging to a one point lead at 22-21, two consecutive kills by Shelbey Manthorpe put the Pirates in set point and an ace by Hansen sent Seton Hall to a 25-21 first set victory. The Pirates won despite registering an attack percentage of just .107.

Seton Hall (4-1) had trouble putting balls away early on, leading to several Siena blocks. Trailing 8-5, Siena scored five straight points to take a 10-8 lead. Down 12-10, the Pirates made the proper adjustments and closed the set on a 15-2 run, winning set two, 25-14. After a paltry .107 attack percentage in set one, the Pirates exploded for a .364 clip in set two. Stacey Manthorpe led the offensive charge with six kills, while her sister Shelbey had 11 assists in set two alone.

The Pirates scored four of the first five points in set three, but Siena charged back and four straight points later in the set gave them a 12-11 lead. Seton Hall responded with three straight points to take a 14-12 lead and never trailed again. Leading 17-15, The Hall went on a 6-1 run to take a commanding 23-16 lead. During the run, Sekulova registered three of her seven kills. Seton Hall rolled to a 25-18 victory in set three and its second straight three-set sweep of the day.

Seton Hall will return to action tomorrow as the Seton Hall Invitational continues with matches against Rutgers at noon and UNLV at 7:00 p.m.
