Shorthanded Pirates Edged at Xavier

CINCINNATI - Despite playing with 10 players for the entire second half, the Seton Hall women's soccer team finished with a season-high eight shots on goal at Xavier on Sunday but the Pirates could not slip one past XU keeper Rachel Piccus as the Musketeers claimed a 1-0 victory.
The Hall (2-10-2, 1-4-0 BIG EAST) controlled the final period, doubling up Xavier in shot attempts, 8-to-4, but Piccus totaled six stops in the period to help a 25th minute goal by Kenadie Carlson hold up as the winner.
Seton Hall freshman Anna MacLean (Thunder Bay, Ontario) recorded two of her five saves in the match during the first 20 minutes of action but in the 25th, Carlson collected a through ball from Maddie Tierney and powered one home from just outside the area despite a touch from a diving MacLean.
The Pirates back line of Cathy Chukuka (Marlboro, N.J.), Emily Hansinger (Mount Laurel, N.J.) and D'Yonna Riley (Washingtonville, N.Y.) limited the hosts to one shot on frame between the goal and the final 20 minutes of the match, helping keep the door open for a potential comeback.
Riley combined with the forward tandem of Amanda Gulli (Toms River, N.J.) and Eva Gonzalez (Mesquite, Texas) to account for six of the squad's eight shots on net yet none were able to beat Piccus whose eight-save performance included two highlight stops on Gulli from short range.
MacLean added two more stops of her own in the final half but Xavier was able to close out its second all-time win over The Hall.
Turning Point
The Pirates came out firing in the second half, recording four shots while holding Xavier without an attempt in the first 20 minutes but Piccus made three saves in the sequence to stem the tide
